Abstract
The author delineates the establishment of the school systems in Canada and the first two centuries of their development. The first part of his discussion focuses on the influence of the United States, French culture, British settlement and early schools, and frontier schools. Next, the growth of both the nation and the schools during the latter part of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century are outlined. In the third part of the book, modern trends in Canadian education are analyzed. The author includes a chapter on "Quebec and the Two Cultures."
