Abstract
The author notes that by the early 1830s, the traditions of Quebec City's English-speaking citizens, their institutions, and even their customs were omnipresent in the town. He argues that the characteristics of the ancient French town were modified by the British imperial power to such an extent that the Francophone inhabitants faced new administrative, economic and social structures. He points out that Quebec became British first by military and political change, then by the influence of Anglophones on social groups and economic structures.
