Title
Les carnets de dessins de Marian Dale Scott
Abstract
For Montreal artist Marian Dale Scott (1906-1993), drawing was a key element of her preparation for painting in oils. Her sketchbooks show the intimate scenes and subjects she also enjoyed drawing – summer homes, friends, parties, animals and flowers – as well as the occasional political scene, such as left wing rallies. The author contends that these sketchbooks help illuminate the biographical and social context in which Scott created her art of the 1930s and 1940s.
