Abstract
An examination of early modernism in Canadian art by Montreal artists James Wilson Morrice (1865-1924) and John Lyman (1886-1967), and their relationship with the French modernist artist Henri Matisse (1869-1954). Lyman was a student of the French painter at the Academy Matisse in 1910, and a few years later Morrice and Matisse became friends when staying in Tangier, Morocco.
