A reprint of a series of letters written by or to members of the Annexation Association of Montreal, a largely English-speaking group of businessmen who favoured annexation with the United States in 1849. Also included in this article is a biography of the Edward Goff Penny (1820-1881), editor of the Montreal Herald and clerk to the secretaries of the Annexation Association.
