| Abstract |
An examination of the outbreak of the Rebellion of 1837 in Lower Canada, which the author argues was caused by the radicalization and the militarization of the parties involved. The author gives a sympathetic view of the Partiote Party, and its para-military wing, the Fils de la liberté, compared to his characterization of the "anti-reform" Loyalist party and the British Rifle Corps, later re-named the Doric Club.
