Abstract |
In his exchanges with publishers and scholars, Montreal poet and novelist A.M. Klein (1909-1972) glosses his own writing and argues for the integrity of his poetic vision. Samplings of Klein's correspondence with Seagram's Distilleries clarify his controversial role as ghost-writer and PR consultant for Montreal distiller Samuel Bronfman. Klein's letters are considered a valuable resource for understanding twentieth-century Canadian literary modernism, diasporic Judaism, and the culture of Montreal.
