Abstract |
The Natural History Society of Montreal was founded in 1827 by a group largely composed of physicians and educators, such as John Bethune, Alexander Skakel, William Robertson and Andrew Fernando Holmes. McGill University Principal William Dawson was active in the Society from the time of his arrival in Montreal in 1855. The Society's activities lay largely in sponsoring lectures on scientific topics. It was the oldest scientific organization in Canada when it was disbanded in 1925.
