Abstract |
The Scottish-born James Croil (1821-1916) immigrated to Canada in 1845 and moved to Montreal in 1869. He was a fund-raiser for the Presbyterian Church of Canada in connection with the Church of Scotland, as well as superintendent of the St Paul's Church Sunday School and president of Montreal's Sabbath School Association. In October 1872 Croil was appointed editor of the "Presbyterian", the monthly organ of that church. Croil was instrumental in the discussions leading to the union of the four Presbyterian churches in Canada in 1875.
