Abstract
The Scottish-born William Ross (1732-1808) was a soldier in the 78th Regiment of the Fraser Highlanders who fought on the Plains of Abraham in 1759 that led to the defeat of the French in New France. In 1764 he married Marie-Josephte Proulx and went on to be Superintendent of pilots on the St. Lawrence River. He died accidentally on November 7, 1808, on Île Bic, and is buried in the parish of St-Germain in Rimouski. He had five surviving sons who, as the author points out, went on to form the Ross dynasty in Quebec.
