Abstract |
Portrait artist Lilias Torrance Newton (1896-1980) was a member of Montreal's Beaver Hall Group. She also taught at the Art Association of Montreal(1934-36 and 1938-40), as well as in her studio. In 1957, Newton was commissioned to paint an official portrait of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, the first Canadian designated to produce a portrait of a reigning monarch.
