Abstract |
In 1910, James C. McDonald started an accounting practice on St. James Street in Montreal. The following year his cousin, George S. Currie, joined the firm. In 1920, the firm officially adopted the name McDonald, Currie & Co. In 1922 McDonald, Currie & Co. opened a branch office in Quebec City; in 1934 it opened an office in Ottawa; and in 1935 it opened offices in Toronto and Rimouski. In the 1940s, offices were opened in Sherbrooke, St. John, New Brunswick and Vancouver, and in the 1950s in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Kitchener, and Calgary. In 1957, McDonald, Currie merged with Cooper Brothers & Co. and Lybrand, Ross Bros. & Montgomery to form Coopers & Lybrand. In 1973, Coopers & Lybrand name officially replaced McDonald, Currie. In 1998, Coopers & Lybrand merged with Price Waterhouse to become PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
