Abstract |
Includes information on the expulsion of Robert Christie (1787-1856), the member for the district of Gaspé, from the Legislative Assembly. In 1829 Christie was expelled for removing magistrates who opposed Governor Dalhousie, and he was expelled four more times between 1829 and 1832. Each time he was expelled, he was re-elected by his constituents. The author was one of his supporters in the Assembly. The author also includes information on the currency of Lower Canada and on the encroachments on constitutional powers of the Legislative Council by the Assembly and the governor.
