Abstract |
During the first half of the nineteenth century in Montreal, Anglophone merchants created a climate and demand for the development of a formal furniture industry to suit their tastes. Between 1800 and 1850, more than 120 employers or self-styled craftsmen, ninety percent of whom were Anglophones, were working in this industry in the city.
