Abstract |
The American-born E.B. Eddy (1827-1906) moved from Vermont to Hull, Quebec, in 1854 and began to produce matches using discarded wood from nearby sawmills. His match-making factory soon became one of the largest in the world. He expanded into other business ventures, and in 1866 opened a timber mill and wood processing factory in Hull.
