Educated in the Townships: The Students of the University of Bishop’s College, 1930-39

Abstract |
Bishop’s University during the Depression, like most English-Canadian universities, faced particular challenges to meet the needs of an increasingly industrial, bureaucratic and technological society. It also was faced with the on-going challenge of serving the small, Anglo-Protestant population of the Eastern Townships. The author concludes that, as in most English-Canadian universities of that era, students at Bishop’s were more concerned with future success than with challenging the status quo.
