Developing Christians, Catholics, and Citizens: Quebec Churches and School Religion from the Turn of the Twentieth Century to 1960
|
Abstract |
The author outlines the different approaches that English Protestants and French Catholics took towards teaching religion in Quebec public schools from the 1860s to the 1960s. She explains how denominational diversity within Protestant schools lead to a moralistic civic approach to religious teaching rather than the French approach of using religious teaching as a means of shaping children to be observant Catholics.
