Abstract |
Includes a chapter titled: "Learning from the 'Sons of the Forest': The Birth of Modern Lacrosse in Canada, 1860-1914." The first game of the Aboriginal sport of lacrosse between Mohawks and (Anglophone) white men took place in Montreal on August 29, 1844. In 1856, English-speaking Montrealers formed the Montreal Lacrosse Club. In 1860, Montrealer William George Beers wrote a pamphlet of rules and instructions for lacrosse.
