Title
Architecture and Public Librarianship in the Early Twentieth Century: The Westmount Public Library, 1899-1939
Abstract
Founded as the community's memorial to Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1899, the Westmount Library became the first truly public library in Quebec, and one of the first separate library buildings in Canada. The building was the result of careful planning by architect Robert Findlay, McGill University Librarian Charles Gould, and a dedicated Westmount library committee.
