Les marchés Sainte-Anne : le Parlement et la Place Youville 1833-1901
Abstract
An outline of the role played by St. Anne's Market in the economic and political history of Montreal. Established in 1825, the market was chosen as the site of the Parliament of the united Canadas in 1843, but the Parliament building was burned down on April 25, 1849, by English Montrealers protesting the adoption of the Rebellion Losses Act. The market was closed down in 1901, and the area where the market once stood is today known as Place Youville.
