Abstract |
A letter-to-the-editor on the decline of Anglophone family and general practice physicians in Quebec in the 1980s. The author points out that Anglophone physicians in 1984 constituted 16.3 percent of the total number of physicians in the province, compared to 21.7 percent in 1976. In raw figures, that meant 2,168 Anglophone physicians out of a total 13,303 physicians. Of these, only 30.7 percent, or 665 physicians, were listed as non-specialists (omnipraticiens), excluding interns and residents. Of these, the author estimates that only about 300 are actively practicing GPs, and no more than 75 of this latter number are female GPs. The Anglophone population in Quebec in 1984 is listed by the author at six million people.
