Title
Job Satisfaction of Elementary Teachers : A Cross Cultural Survey
Abstract
The purpose of the author’s study was to undertake a cross-cultural survey of job satisfaction among English-speaking and French-speaking elementary teachers in a Montreal area school commission (circa 1983). The author analyzed four factors of job satisfaction: satisfaction from support, resources, and involvement; satisfaction from students; satisfaction from ancillary benefits; and satisfaction from society’s view of teachers. The author’s findings revealed no differences between the two groups in satisfaction from support, resources, and involvement and in satisfaction from ancillary benefits, but French-speaking teachers did indicate higher levels of satisfaction from students and from satisfaction from society’s view of teachers. His study also found that a teacher’s level of academic preparation played an important role in job satisfaction.
