Jacob-Isaac Segal (1896-1954) : un poète yiddish de Montréal et son milieu
|
Abstract |
The Ukrainian-born poet J. I. Segal (1896-1954) immigrated to Montreal in 1910 where he was acclaimed as a Yiddish poet both in Canada and abroad. The author traces Segal's development as a poet during the great wave of Jewish immigration from Eastern Europe at the beginning of the twentieth century. As well as a biography of Segal, the author also recounts the literary friendship between the poet and the celebrated Montreal Jewish community activist and literary critic Hannaniah Meir Caiserman (1884-1950).
