A study of the struggle for women's admission to and equality at McGill University. The first women were admitted to McGill in 1884. The author examines nineteenth century assumptions about the nature of women, their educability, and their role in society. She also outlines the academic debates around separate versus co-education for women. The author includes information about late twentieth-century status of women (faculty and students) at McGill.
