Immersion Schools: Wallace Lambert's Legacy
|
| Abstract |
In 1965, parents of children at Margaret Pendlebury Elementary School in St. Lambert, south of Montreal, aided by McGill University psychologist Wallace E. Lambert (1922-2009), initiated Canada's first French Immersion program for English-speaking students. The author, the federal government's Commissioner of Official Languages, touts the advantages of immersion programs while dispelling the negative myths surrounding the program.
