Title
The Social Structure of the Italian and Ukrainian Immigrant Communities in Montreal, 1935-1937
Abstract
A sociological examination of Montreal's Italian and Ukrainian communities of the 1930s, before the large post-war immigration of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The author describes how these two communities were often forced by necessity to be trilingual, but, for education purposes, opted for the city's English Catholic schools, thus increasing the cultural diversity of those educational institutions beyond the Irish population.
