Abstract
Griffintown was established at the turn of the nineteenth century as a Montreal working-class district. Thousands of Irish Catholics settled in this part of the city. St. Ann’s parish, which included Griffintown, was established in 1854 and the church became an active centre for Griffintown’s Irish Catholic residents. St. Ann’s was Montreal’s second English Catholic church after St. Patrick’s (1847). This book lists over 9,000 baptisms and over 1,800 marriages that took place at St. Ann’s in the last quarter of the nineteenth century.
