Rooms Of Their Own: The Nurses' Residences at Montreal's Royal Victoria Hospital
|
| Abstract |
In 1906, Montreal architects Edward and William Sutherland Maxwell designed a new nurses' residence for the Royal Victoria Hospital. The author analyzes the issues involved in designing a modern building type in early twentieth century Montreal, and the reflection of that building type in the evolving place of women professionals in Canada's evolving health care system.
