Abstract |
The author found that in Montreal in the early 1970s, the percentage of the utilization of French at work by Francophones had dropped from 87 percent to 78 percent. The author also found that French only was mostly used by Francophone workers employed at lower levels of businesses, while French and English were used at medium levels and English only at upper echelons of these workplaces. He concluded that the use of the English language by Francophones and Allophones was the key to upward mobility.
