| Abstract |
A history of the introduction of hockey in Montreal, starting with the match played between two teams of students from McGill University on March 3, 1875, at the Victoria Skating Rink. The author points out that hockey in Montreal was played primarily by Anglophones (whom she describes as "l'élite anglo-saxonne") until the mid-1890s, when Francophones became interested in the sport.
