The Influence of Culture on Pro-Environmental Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior: a Canadian Perspective
|
| Abstract |
The authors examine the influence of culture on pro-environmental behavior on Francophone Quebecers, Anglophone Quebecers and Ontario Anglophones. Their results indicate that Francophones have lower scores on eco-literacy and concern for local environmental issues than Ontario Anglophones. No significant differences were found between these two groups on pro-environmental attitudes and the purchase of ecologically-unfriendly products. The Francophones showed a greater concern for global environmental issues than Ontario consumers. Interesting, Quebec Anglophones revealed attitudes and behavior similar to Francophones, which the authors conclude are consistent with acculturation.
