A look at how nine newspapers across Canada covered the May 2000 death of Maurice ‘The Rocket’ Richard. One of the newspapers reviewed was the Montreal Gazette. The author notes that English language newspapers portrayed Richard as a hockey legend, while French language newspapers portrayed him as a cultural icon as well as a hockey super star.
