Title
The French Canadians Under the Royal Institution for the Advancement of Learning, 1818-1829
Abstract
The Royal Institution for the Advancement of Learning was established by the colonial government in the early nineteenth century to introduce public education into Lower Canada. An original intent of the Royal Institution was to "anglicize" French Canadians. The author argues that a large number of Royal Institution schools, especially after 1818, could have come under the control of French Canadians.
