A study of an 1836 inquiry conducted by the Lower Canadian members of the English-speaking dominated Legislative Council, and opposed by members of the French-speaking dominated Legislative Assembly, to introduce a registry law in the colony as a means of inducing more British immigrants into remaining in Lower Canada.
