Teacher, Church of Scotland clergyman and journalist, the Scottish-born Alexander Spark (1762-1819) was instrumental in petitioning the colonial government for land to build a "Scotch Church" in Quebec City. In 1810, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Rue Sainte-Anne was dedicated.
