Abstract |
A leading figure in Canadian public health, Dr. Frederick Montizambert (1843-1929) was the main instigator of the reorganization of the quarantine station at Grosse Île, an island below Quebec City, where he started working in 1866 and was the director between 1869 and 1899. The author points out that the last third of the nineteenth century withnessed the passage from methods of quarantine based on detention to the use of disinfection techniques based on theories of bacteriology.
