Abstract |
Commentary on women and the arts in the French language press in Montreal between 1915 and 1930 centered on three main issues: the socially and economically beneficial adoption of crafts by rural Francophone women; the role of wealthy women, primarily English-speaking Quebecers, in Montreal's art scene; and the controversial and increasingly predominant role of professional women artists, particularly those associated with the Beaver Hall Group.
