Abstract
The author used the multiple regression method to examine the importance of language transfers in 1971 according to the linguistic structure of census tracts. He found that anglicization was more important than francization on two aspects: its general level and its acceleration with the increased presence of people of the mother tongue involved. At the level of the Montreal agglomeration during this period, he notes that schooling was more associated with anglicization than with francization; however, this variable loses its importance when analyzed at the level of seven specific zones. He also noted that francization is a fairly constant process from one area to another, while anglicization varies according to the area, in terms of level and structure.
