Title
Drummondville et la British American Land Company
Abstract
Drummodville, first settled by demobilized British soldiers in 1815, followed by immigrants, mostly Irish, from the British Isles in the 1820s and French Canadians in the 1830s, did not develop economically until the end of the nineteenth century. The author argues that this was the fault of the British American Land Company, owner of much of the Eastern Townships, which focused economic development on the southern part of the Townships, to the detriment of Drummondville.
