Abstract |
An examination of the different settlement patterns within the valley of the Rouge River, a north bank tributary of the Ottawa River, by English- and French-speaking settlers between 1830 and 1920. The English-speaking settlers entered the southern part of the valley, comprising the townships of Grenville, Harrington and Arundel, from the 1830s onwards. Francophones began to move into the northern parts of the valley after 1880.
