L’apport entrepreneurial écossais dans le développement du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean : le lieutenant-colonel Benjamin Alexander Scott, 1859-1928
Abstract
Between 1887 and 1922, the Scottish-born Benjamin Alexander Scott (1859-1928) was the driving economic force in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean area. He was involved in the pulp and paper industry, railroads, hydro-electric development, aluminum smelters and regional tourism. The author points out that Scott's impact on industrial change profoundly changed the face of the economy of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and led to the opening of company towns like Riverbend, Maligne-Isle, Arvida, and Dolbeau, and contributed to the growth of other communities, including Kenogami and Port Alfred.
