Abstract
The first twentieth century attempt to outline the history of English Quebec. The author describes the establishment of British institutions and customs by disbanded and garrisoned soldiers in Quebec City and Montreal after the Conquest, the arrival and influence of the Anglo-American merchants, the immigration of American Loyalists and their settlement in the Eastern Townships, and the coming of Irish immigrants in the mid-nineteenth century.
