Bilingual Education of Children: The St. Lambert Experiment
Abstract
In 1965, the parents of children at Margaret Pendlebury Elementary School in St. Lambert, south of Montreal, aided by McGill University psychologist Wallace E. Lambert (1922-2009), initiated Canada's first French Immersion program for English-speaking students. According to the authors, the school children acquired a second language without any loss of their English cultural identity.
