Abstract
An examination of the place of Montreal's Italian community at two periods of Montreal's urban history -- 1930 and 1960. The author examines Saint-Laurent Boulevard between Saint-Zotique and Mozart streets, comparing property, residents, businesses and the built environment during these two periods. He concludes that the boulevard enjoyed considerable continuity in commercial businesses, based on a small middle class, over the two periods, and that the place of Italians in Montreal, weak in 1930, is asserted considerably by 1960, both at the residential level and at the economic activity level.
