Montreal’s Golden Square Mile: A Historical Perspective
|
Abstract |
The story in words and photographs of Montreal's former Golden Square Mile, an area from des Pins Avenue to René Lévesque Boulevard and from Guy Street/Côte-des-Neiges to University, where the country's financiers, captains of industry, and the city's well-to-do merchants lived in grand mansions and townhouses. The book contains close to 200 photographs, some by the author and the rest from nineteenth century photos by William Notman held at the McCord Museum, chronicling the history of the buildings of this area, most now destroyed, and the predominately Anglophone families that built them.
