Abstract |
A tale of two cities - Montreal and Quebec - in the decade when the former overtook the latter as the economic capital of the province. The author liberally uses nineteenth century travel accounts to reconstruct the economic activities of these two cities. He also describes smaller towns and villages such as Trois-Rivières, La Prairie and St-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
