Title
Camp Arrowhead – A Social History
Abstract
Camp Arrowhead, situated on Fitch Bay, Lake Memphremagog, in the Eastern Townships, was in operation between 1946 and 1969. The primary goal of the summer camp’s founder and educator, Ken Murray, was to provide a social environment where the boys of Montreal’s Anglo elite could live out the drama of adolescence while getting in touch with a more “authentic” self than could be found in the city. The author focuses on the mutual dependence of the Westmount and Fitch Bay milieu, and on the social and cultural uses of “wilderness” for city dwellers.
