|
Abstract |
Owl's Head Mountain, in the Eastern Townships, is the site of the only outdoor Masonic "communion" or meeting place in Quebec. Hosted by the Golden Rule Lodge No. 5 of Stanstead, the tradition of the Owl's Head communion dates back to September 1857. By the end of the nineteenth century, the Owl's Head communion had been held nine times, and since 1901 it has been held every year on June 24th. The "lodge room" is a grassy bowl-shaped nook on the south face of the mountain that reportedly can seat over 200 people.
