Abstract |
Scottish colonists first settled in Scotstown in the nineteenth century. The descending Salmon River lent itself to the creation of a hydroelectric dam, and convinced owners of Glasgow Canadian Land and Trust Company to set up business and establish a hamlet there in 1872. The municipality officially became Scotstown in 1892, in honour of John Scott, the first manager of the company
