Abstract |
The painter Aaron Allan Edson was born in Stanbridge (now Stanbridge East), Quebec, in 1846 and died in Glen Sutton, Quebec, in 1888. The author outlines the biographical details of the painter's life and discusses his artistic accomplishments with particular reference to his pursuit of nature and exploration of light. Edson was considered one of Canada's foremost landscape painters of his day. The author also details the art societies and artists with whom Edson associated. He was a founding member of the Society of Canadian Artists in Montreal in 1867, and in 1880 he became one of the founding members of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
